IT Issues WhatsApp webhook prototype · Last updated October 12, 2026

IT Issues is a prototype for collecting office IT reports through WhatsApp. It asks the person reporting an issue for their name, department, and a description of the IT problem. Do not send passwords, payment details, or other information that is not needed to describe the issue.

Information this project handles

The webhook receives the sender’s WhatsApp phone number and message text. During the report conversation, it collects the name and department the person provides and their IT issue description. It also stores webhook event details supplied by Meta, which can include message identifiers, timestamps, and delivery status information.

How information is used

The information is used to create and manage IT issue reports, continue an unfinished report conversation, prevent duplicate message processing, and send prompts and a ticket number back through WhatsApp. The current project stores data in a JSON file and is not yet connected to the separate dashboard framework.

Storage and access

In the current prototype, information is saved in data/it-issues.json on the machine running the webhook. People who can access that machine or its project files may be able to access the file. During local testing, the webhook may be reached through Cloudflare Tunnel. The file is excluded from the project's Git history, but that alone does not replace access controls or secure backups.

WhatsApp messages are handled by Meta to provide WhatsApp and the WhatsApp Business Platform. Retention and deletion

The current prototype does not automatically delete saved reports or webhook events. They remain in the JSON file until the project operator deletes them. Any separately created backups may remain until those backups are removed. To ask a question or request deletion of information held in the project file, contact the project operator using the email below. Requests about information held by Meta are subject to Meta's own processes.

Use and sharing

The project is intended to provide IT staff with information needed to respond to reported office IT issues. It does not currently provide a dashboard or automatically share the JSON file with the separate dashboard framework. The project does not sell report information or use it for advertising.
